COURSE DESCRIPTIONS CIMT 187 Special Instruction/Advanced Manufacturing: Intro to Lean Manufacturing A lean enterprise utilizes tools and techniques that help eliminate waste, reduce costs, improve customer service and shorten lead times. This course is designed to introduce the participant to the lean tools and techniques to build a foundation for lean performance in an organization. CIMT 188 Special Instruction/Advanced Manufacturing: Conducting Kaizen Events Kaizen means continuous improvement. It is based on using structured analysis in order to analyze the elements of a process to understand it so that you can learn how to change it and make improvements. The course is designed to teach the participant the steps for conducting an effective kaizen event that is well planned, well implemented and well followed up. CIMT 188 Special Instruction/Advanced Manufacturing: Value Stream Mapping Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a process of defining a process by using graphics and icons to show the sequence of actions and movement of materials, information and resources in a value stream of an organization. This course is designed to teach the participant the process of developing a value stream map and how to use the technique to make improvements to a process. CIMT 188 Special Instruction/Advanced Manufacturing: Visual Management – 5S Visual Management -5s is a set of techniques that are used to eliminate waste from a process and prevent it from recurring in the future. Using these techniques will enable a company to improve process efficiency, first time quality, improve work place safety, and lower total costs. This course is designed to teach participants about how to implement 5s concepts and techniques through classroom learning and hands-on application. CIMT 188 Special Instruction/Advanced Manufacturing: Eliminating Waste Eliminating waste in the work place is imperative for any lean thinking effort to be successful in an organization. This module is designed to teach participants about how to identify, remove and prevent waste in processes through classroom learning and hands-on application. CIMT 188 Special Instruction/Advanced Manufacturing: Error Proofing/Standard Work Error proofing is a structured approach to ensuring quality in the work process by assuring t hat specific errors cannot be made in the process. The course is designed to teach the participant about Zero Quality Control and the practices to support it and about poka-yoke systems and how they can regulate a manufacturing process. The term “standard operations” refers to the most efficient work combination that a company can create and it is a mixture of people, processes, material and technology. This course is designed to teach the participant the importance of standardization in defining standard work, how to define standard work, and how to implement standard work in the organization. CIMT 188 Special Instruction/Advanced Manufacturing: Quick Change/TPM/Cellular Mfg Quick changeover is a method of analyzing the organization’s manufacturing process and reducing the resources and time required for equipment set-up and product changeover. Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is a series of methods that ensures every piece of equipment in a production environment is always able to perform its tasks so that the throughput process is never interrupted. This course is designed to teach the participant the roles of quick changeover and TPM in a lean environment and how to implement these concepts. This course will address the concepts and techniques of cellular manufacturing. Cell design and implementation will be addressed to support and explain the concepts and techniques and there will be discussion about getting the support and involvement of the shop floor. The course is designed to teach the participant the steps necessary to design and convert to a cellular arrangement and what to expect when working in a manufacturing cell. CIMT 188 Special Instruction/Advanced Manufacturing: Pull Production/Kanban Utilizing pull production is a method of using visual signals for controlling the flow of materials during the production process. It synchronizes the work processes within the organization as well as those that involve outside suppliers based on the needs of the customer. This course is designed to teach the participant what pull production is, the pre-requisites and benefits of pull production, and how to implement, manage and sustain pull production within the organization. It is also designed to teach the participant what is involved in understanding one piece flow and how to address the implementation of this concept. The Kanban system is a method of using a mechanism (such as cards) as visual signals for activities in order to control the flow of materials during a production process. This course is designed to teach the participant what Kanban is, what will make it successful, what the benefits are and how to apply the Kanban process to a manufacturing environment. CIMT 187 Special Instruction/Advanced Manufacturing: Lean Metrics Lean Metrics help monitor the success of implementing lean concepts and where improvements can be made to the process. They fall into three main categories: financial, behavior, and Core-process. This course is designed to teach the participant about Lean Metrics and their value in helping the organization with improving its processes. Contact us for more information |
